Leading gallery owners, curators and collectors discuss the rise and rise of the Lagos art scene over the past few decades and most especially, the emerging galleries and trends and the possibilities for future growth. Books to be referenced include Contemporary Nigerian art in Lagos private collections, (edited by Jess Castellote), Artists of Nigeria by Onyema OFFOEDU-OKEKE, and Ben Enwonwu: The Making of an African Modernist, by Sylvester Ogbechie.Participants to be confirmed.

The Festival Conversation 2 – Theme: The Lagos Story
A conversation featuring Akin Adesokan (author of Roots in the Sky) and John Godwin & Gillian Hopwood (authors of Sandbank City) on the diverse stories that have shaped the growth of Lagos. Books to be referenced include:’LAGOS: A Cultural and Historical Companion’, by Kaye Whiteman, Building Lagos by Ayo Vaughan Richards/Olu Akinsemoyin and Sandbank City

DADA books presents an anthology of short fiction set in Lagos, 100 years after Nigeria’s independence from British rule. The science-fiction collection has been in the making since 2010. The eight authors who contributed to the collection will engage the audience with readings, discussions and book signings.

The Caine Prize for Nigerian Writing?
Rotimi Babatunde, winner of the 2012 Caine Prize for African Writing joins the four Nigerians shortlisted for the same prize in 2013 in conversation on their writing and the Caine Prize experience.

We will run a poll on the top 5 books published in 2013 that should be featured at LABAF 2013. The 5 books that top the poll will be unveiled and discussed with the audience. Moderated by Laipo / Ayodele Olofintuade
4:30pm – 6.00pm Parallel Session
New Writing
We will be asking two of the UK authors listed on Granta’s list of Best of Young British Novelists released in April 2013 what New Writing means to them, we will listen to them read from their own writing and of course, we will get those autographs!

Theme: What’s Your Lagos Story?
Preface to the party for Francessca Emanuel and Rasheed Gbadamosi : A roomful of old and young, distinguished, respected and regular Lagos personalities and guests trade stories on what the city means to them.
List of special guests being compiled, but this special event, interrogating Lagos, is open to all. Referenced book: A Bit of Difference by Sefi Atta; The Cow Tail and Other Stories of The African Diaspora by Lanre Ogundimu

Poetry Slam : The Festival closes with a smashing poetry jam session.
