On 20 February Kulungwana promotes the launch of a new book about the Mozambican photographer Ricardo Rangel, being published by the Marimbique publishing house.
The book, entitled “Ricardo Rangel: Insubmisso e Generoso” (Ricardo Rangel: Rebellious and Generous), is the outcome of a conference held in 2012, on the life and works of the Mozambican photographer. This initiative by Kulungwana is part of the “Ricardo Rangel Project”, which held a series of thematic exhibitions over the course of about a year and revisited the only retrospective exhibition of his work that Ricardo Rangel himself ever organised. The project received support from the Norwegian embassy.
On the occasion of the launch of the book, the photographic exhibition “Uma história–mil estorias – Ricardo Rangel e as crianças” ( History and stories – Ricardo Rangel and children) will be shown for the second time from the 20th of February to the 9th of March.
For Rangel the important thing was to photograph, first and foremost, the people who are almost always forgotten, even though they represent the majority of the population. He influenced the younger generation of photographers, not only through his photographic work, but also through his example of living his life.

No dia 20 de Fevereiro a KULUNGWANA promove o lançamento de novo livro sobre o fotógrafo moçambicano Ricardo Rangel, que conta com a chancela da editora Marimbique.
O livro “Ricardo Rangel: Insubmisso e Generoso”, resulta do colóquio realizado, em 2012, sobre a vida e obra do fotógrafo moçambicano. Esta iniciativa da Kulungwana, enquadra-se no “Projecto Ricardo Rangel”, que realizou durante cerca de doze meses algumas exposições temáticas e revisitou a única exposição retrospectiva que o próprio Ricardo Rangel organizou dos seus trabalhos. O Projecto contou com o apoio da Embaixada do Reino da Noruega.
Por ocasião do lançamento do livro a exposição de fotografia estará patente pela segunda vez do dia 20 Fevereiro ao dia 9 de Março.
Para Rangel o importante era fotografar, em primeiro plano, as pessoas que são quase sempre esquecidas, mesmo representando a grande parte da população. E influenciou a geração mais jovem de fotografos através, não só do seu trabalho fotográfico, mas também do seu exemplo de vida.
