As the opening film of the 3rd season of « Inspiring Young Imaginations – African Films for Children and Youth », AfricAvenir, Endgame Media FNCC and HISA proudly present the Namibian-made children’s movie « /Gasa ». The screening will be the Windhoek Premiere of this movie-series.

The animation /Gasa will be available in five Namibian languages. This screening will be in English and during interval children will meet the /Gasa Mascot and Mr Gecko.

About the Film:
/Gasa, 2x 26 minutes, Namibia/SA, directed, produced and written by Linda de Jager, 2015, for children aged between 7-13 years.

The 2 episodes of this Namibian animation series centres on the title figure, /Gasa, who comes with a message from the past for the present generation – and a knowledge of the land, a man « who is here for a reason ».
In the first episode he travels to the North of Namibia through Etosha – and makes his way to the Quiver Tree Forest in a quest to make a new quiver.
On the way, he tells several traditional stories about animals, including how the Jackal got his Black Back. Wherever he goes, Namibians wish him good fortune.
In the second episode he travels to the Topnaar community near Walvis Bay, taste the « bread of the desert » – and almost dies on the Skeleton Coast with-out water.
Determined to meet the ovaHimba people to learn more about the Black Rhino – and the poaching problem in the area, he bravely continues. Under the stars one night, he gains a startling insight about what animals mean to this world.
The antics of his little friend, Mr Gecko, amuse him along the way.
These two unique friends are bound to win a special place in the hearts of viewers of all ages.

Additional information:

With /Gasa, award-winning Namibian-born producer/director Linda de Jager has turned to this genre to share in the adventures of a San man travelling with Mr Gecko, his little animal friend. She joins forces with Congo-born animator Rickey Pascal « Freehand » Nzoni, to create a world where Namibia comes alive in animation. Nzoni was one of the key artists illustrating the story of Nelson Mandela’s life in comics.

/Gasa was made possible by development funding of the First National Bank Foundation, the Pupkewitz Foundation and the translations were made possible by the Namibia Film Commission.

The monthly African film series for children and youth « Inspiring Young Imaginations » is a project by AfricAvenir, FNCC, and HISA. It is further supported by Terre des Hommes Italy and Jac-Mat.
