The Afro Project is a team of people, dedicated to bringing the music and culture of Africa closer to a greater public.

In order to support the cultural exchange, the Afro Project cooperates with various African embassies, the European Union, the German Foreign Office, the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art, the Initiative for Southern Africa of German Business (SAFRI), the cultural office of the city of Wuerzburg and many African artists and musicians.

The Afro Project organizes exhibitions, workshops and concerts and thus propagates the riches of African culture.

The first Africa Festival took place in 1989 and visitors and artist from 32 nations took part. Since then over 3,300 musicians from North, South, East and West Africa performed live on stage at the festival in Wuerzburg. Movies produced by the German international TV channel Deutsche Welle were broadcasted by television companies in America, Africa and the Caribbean. National and international Press reported regularly and in detail about the festival.

Since several years, the Afro Project has been cooperating with various African organizations. In the years 2000 and 2001, the Afro Project supported Youssou N’Dour’s festival DK24 in Dakar. In 2003 and 2004, there was a cooperation with the Tuareg festival « Festival au Desert » in Timbuktu, Mali. Since 2002, the Afro Project has been cooperating with the South African Aids Project « Steps for the Future ». In the year 2006, the Afro Project donated 1’000’000 condoms to this project. 2007 Afro Project handed over a Mercedes van to the anti-aids initiative. Now they are able to reach people in remote villages.
