La célèbre cinéaste sud-africaine, Xoliswa Sithole, nous emmène dans un voyage historique à travers le temps dans ce documentaire primé qui relie les mouvements de résistance féminine en Afrique du Sud. Le point de départ du documentaire est le 9 août 1956, jour où 20 000 femmes ont marché vers les Union Buildings de Pretoria pour protester contre la loi déshumanisante de l’apartheid qui obligeait tous les Africains à porter un laissez-passer. « Vous avez touché une femme, vous avez frappé un rocher », scandaient-elles, un mantra qui a continué à témoigner de la résilience de nombreuses et remarquables militantes sud-africaines, dont Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph et Albertina Sisulu.

Celebrated South African filmmaker, Xoliswa Sithole, takes us on a historical journey through time in this award-winning documentary that connects female resistance movements in South Africa. The starting point of the documentary is August 9, 1956, which marks the day that 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest against the dehumanizing apartheid law that required all Africans to carry a pass. « You have touched a woman, you have struck a rock, » they chanted, a mantra which has continued to stand as testimony to the resilience of many remarkable South African female activists, including Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph and Albertina Sisulu.
