Marie Cissé travaille comme chef de cuisine dans la maison de retraite de la petite ville de Bagnères-de-Luchon dans les Pyrénées, au sud de la France. Son quotidien est tranquille ; elle dirige bien sa cuisine, s’occupe des résidents, se distrait avec sa collègue et meilleure amie Nadia. Elle entame une nouvelle romance lorsque tout est perturbé par l’arrivée du père Patrick. Elle le reconnaît : il fait partie du passé terrifiant lorsqu’elle était encore dans son pays natal. Plus le prêtre est apprécié des résidents et du personnel, plus Marie se trouve confrontée à son passé troublé et douloureux.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The impact of war on children is further complicated when they become the perpetrators of violence. That’s the real tragedy of child soldiers. I wanted to explore who these children become as adults, how they process the atrocities they witnessed and committed. This is an aspect of war that’s seldom discussed. By setting Mon Père, le Diable in a neutral location, I saw an opportunity not only to explore this issue from a unique perspective, but to make an intimate social commentary on it.

Marie Cissé works as the head chef at a retirement home in small-town France. Her easy day-to-day life spent caring for residents, hanging out with her co-worker and best friend Nadia, and teasing a potential new romance is disrupted by the arrival of Father Patrick, an African priest whom she recognizes from a terrifying episode in her homeland. As he further endears himself to the residents and staff, Marie is forced to decide how best to deal with this reminder of her troubled past.

Marie è capocuoca in una casa di riposo di una cittadina di montagna nel sud della Francia. Anche se sembra ben integrata, Marie nasconde un segreto di cui si vergogna: è stata una bambina soldato. Lotta in silenzio contro i brandelli del traumatico passato che si porta dentro e nasconde a coloro che le stanno intorno il proprio disturbo post- traumatico da stress. La sua vita tranquilla è sconvolta il giorno in cui un prete africano che si fa chiamare padre Patrick inizia a fare volontariato nella casa. Marie lo riconosce immediatamente. Padre Patrick ammalia tutti i colleghi di lavoro, mentre Marie deve decidere se vendicarsi o tenersi stretta la sua nuova vita.

COMMENTO DELLA REGISTA
L’impatto della guerra sui bambini si complica ulteriormente quando sono loro a commettere violenza. Questa è la vera tragedia dei bambini soldato. Volevo analizzare chi essi diventino da adulti, come elaborino le atrocità di cui sono stati testimoni o autori. Si tratta di un aspetto della guerra poco trattato. Ambientando Mon Père, le Diable in un luogo neutro, ho avuto l’opportunità di analizzare il tema da una prospettiva singolare e anche di realizzarne un intimo commento sociale.
