Ce film raconte l’histoire d’une famille qui réside dans une ville lointaine de la région aride au sud d’Israël. Le chef de la famille Elmaliach, le seul à travailler, se nomme Shlomo. Après s’être dévoué pendant vingt ans à un travail difficile à la boulangerie locale, Schlomo est renvoyé sans compensation. Blessé et humilié, il rentre chez lui pour s’enfermer avec sa famille. Au-delà de l’histoire personnelle d’une famille israélienne, le film aborde la question universelle du chômage, de l’orgueil blessé et du stress auquel chaque homme peut être confronté.

Bread
This film tells the story of a family living in a remote town in the Southern arid part of Israel. The head of the family and its bread earner is Shlomo Almaliach. After twenty years of hard and dedicated work at the local bakery, Almaliach is fired without severance compensation. Degrated and hurt, Almaliach returns home and shuts himself up together with his family. Bread is more than the story of a family on the fringes of the Israeli society. It is a commentary on the universal problems of unemployment, pride, stress and the nature of human life.
