Un jeune étudiant trouve une chambre à louer dans une très ancienne maison sur le fleuve. Il fera connaissance avec la propriétaire, une vieille Française qui vit en Egypte depuis le décès de son mari, mort pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale, et son voisin, un ancien violoniste qui passe ses journées à attendre ses enfants et ses nuits à faire vibrer son instrument.
Trois solitudes qui se rencontrent au bord de l’eau dans un temps hors du temps…
