Stéphane, Zohra et Laure parcourent les rues d’une même ville mais ne se connaissent pas. Stéphane, un trentenaire perdu dans un monde sur lequel il n’a pas de prise, se voit proposer un marché qui pourrait changer sa vie, mais à quel prix ? Zohra a quitté l’Algérie pour chercher à comprendre la mort de son fils assassiné en France. Laure vit son premier amour pour un jeune révolté avec ferveur et innocence, jusqu’au jour où ce dernier est incarcéré. Rien ne les appelait tous trois à se retrouver un jour dans un parloir de prison. c’est pourtant dans ce lieu, où les passions s’exacerbent, qu’ils auront chacun à prendre en main leurs destins…

Zorah est une vieille femme algérienne. Au lendemain du meurtre de son fils, elle abandonne tout pour venir en France rencontrer l’assassin en prison. Mais comment peut-elle se rendre au parloir sans le consentement du prisonnier ?
Laure, 15 ans, est tombée amoureuse d’une petite frappe. Ce dernier se retrouvant en prison, elle doit chercher un adulte pour lui permettre de l’accompagner au parloir. Elle rencontre alors Antoine, jeune interne en chirurgie, cynique, qui prend un malin plaisir à être l’observateur des soucis d’autrui…
Stéphane, jeune livreur de sang désargenté, se voit proposer pour une somme d’argent alléchante, de prendre la place d’un truand au parloir de la prison et de permettre ainsi son évasion. Mais l’homme à qui il doit ressembler est d’une autre stature que la sienne…

INTENTION
Durant l’écriture d’un court métrage « Sauf le silence », je suis allée en repérages autour de la prison de Fleury Merogis, où je me suis rapprochée d’une association qui s’occupe des familles en attente de parloir.
Ce film est né de ces rencontres avec les proches de prisonniers.
Ni enfermés à l’intérieur, ni libres dehors, je voulais rendre voix à ces hommes et ces femmes au destin silencieux, exprimer ce lien qui résiste malgré la chair et le coeur meurtris.
J’ai choisi alors un récit choral : trois histoires, trois rapports différents à la prison, trois personnages arrivés à un moment décisif de leur vie et qui chacun à leur manière prennent en main leur destinée avec singularité ; la force d’une histoire étant pour moi le premier rempart à la banalisation et à l’indifférence.

Zorah is an old Algerian woman. The day after her son’s murder, she abandons everything to go to France to meet his killer in prison. How, though, will she get to meet the prisoner in the visiting room without his consent?
Laure, 15 years old, has fallen in love with a thug. As he is in prison, she has to find an adult to go with her so that she can get into the visiting room. She meets Antoine, a young, cynical, house surgeon, who gets his kicks from observing other people’s troubles…
Stéphane, a penniless, young, blood delivery-man, is asked to swap places in a prison visiting room with a crook so that he can escape. The amount of money he is offered is tempting, but the man he is supposed to substitute himself for is of a completely different size…

INTENTION
While writing the short film « Sauf le silence », I went to research locations around the prison of Fleury-Merogis, and talked to an association that looks after the families waiting for the visiting room.
This film comes from these encounters with the close ones of prisoners. Not shut away inside, or free outside, I wanted to give voice to these men and women with silent destinies, to express the link that remains despite the wounded hearts and flesh.
I chose the form of a choral recital: three stories, three different relationships to prison, three characters who have arrived at a decisive moment in their life and each choosing to take their fate into their own hands in a singular manner; the strength of a story is, for me, the first defence against indifference made ordinary.
