Un groupe de compositeurs de musique se réunit pour écrire des chansons. Dans ce portrait de l’Alexandrie moderne, les thèmes du désastre humain et de l’errance forment le noeud du film plutôt qu’une histoire linéaire clairement définie.

Shot in Alexandria using non-professional actors and an unpaid crew, Ibrahim El Batout’s third feature continues the Egyptian filmmaker’s obsession in contemplating the details of daily Egyptian life. Inspired by the alternative cinema of Goddard, Vertov and Kiarostami, the story follows the journey of Youssef, a prisoner released after five years of solitary confinement in order to fetch a sheath of important documents, with a number of seemingly unconnected subplots, concerning a group of aspiring songwriters, a satellite TV executive searching for a show host, an elderly juggler leading his sickly old horse though the city streets, and so on. As a result, what might have been a straight-ahead story with predictable scenes, becomes an organic study of a city populated by disparate, often desperate, characters, a closer view of so-called reality and the lives of everyday people.

يتوقع أن يتم الإنتهاء من جميع المراحل النهائية لفيلم « حاوي » في خلال الستة أشهر القادمة و يتم عرضه في صالات العرض السينمائية بمصر مع نهاية هذا العام.

Il regista egiziano Ibrahim El Batout, vincitore del Golden Tauro a Taormina nel 2008 per la sua opera seconda, Eye of theSun, torna con un altro film onesto e toccante ambientato ad Alessandria. In Hawi, la città stessa è la protagonista dellastoria, nella quale persone che si conoscono appena cercano di sopravvivere. Alcuni, come il carrettiere che sta per perderel’amato cavallo, sembrano uscire da un altro tempo. Altri, come la danzatrice del ventre trattata con brutalità dalla poliziaquando si reca a denunciare un crimine, sono vivi, in maniera esotica e commovente. Il regista stesso appare nel ruolo diYoussef, in prigione per vent’anni per motivi politici. Il film si apre con il suo rilascio: entro dieci giorni dovrà consegnaredei « documenti ». L’uomo utilizza il tempo prezioso per incontrare la figlia, che non ha mai conosciuto, senza rivelarle la suaidentità. Girato con stile e sensibilità, Hawi tributa un omaggio al coraggio malinconico dei suoi protagonisti. Un film strano esognante, che lascia una profonda impressione sugli spettatori aperti alla sua umanità. Il film si è aggiudicato il Premio peril Miglior Film Arabo al Festival di Doha.

Ibrahim El Batout (Egitto, 1963) si è laureato in fisica all’Università Americana de Il Cairo.Ha iniziato la carriera cinematografica col genere documentario, per passare alla fictioncol suo debutto, Ithaki (2005). Ha lavorato successivamente con la regista Nadia Kamel aldocumentario Salata Balady. Nel 2008, El Batout ha diretto Ein shams, proiettato in oltre45 festival di tutto il mondo. Il film ha vinto a Taormina il Golden Tauro al Miglior Film.
