Manga in America
John Manga, a bank managern lives in a beautiful house in Nairobi, with his wife and only daughter…
One day, the Bank discovers that he gave out a loan based on forged security papers – he is fired. He looks for a job uncessfuly. His house, furniture and car are auctionned. Dan, his brother-in-law, invites him to America.
In America he finds hostile relatives and he cannot get the kind of job he expected. He finds that most Kenyans work 16 hrs a day, a hundreds hours a week. They have no time for their families and cannot attend to their children’s education. Many Kenyans send thousands of dollars to relatives back home. But most relatives assume that American dollars are easy to get and therefore often misuse the money.
He realizes that the job market in America favors women. In most cases, ladies have better incomes than their Menfolk. Many women own the familiy homes.
This differential income and American lows that favor women and children have created two centers of power, three when you include children. This is a challenge to Kenyan men.
Kenyans use their hard-earned American dollars to buy beautiful homes and luxury cars. They party a lot on their weekends off, despite which they never miss going to church the following day.
