The announcement was made at the recently concluded 6 th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) on the 10 th of April in Bayelsa, Nigeria by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe founder of AMAA.
AFRIFF is a celebration of the art of filmmaking and a deep connection of Africa with the world through films. With the theme Africa Unites ; the vision is to reflect a common true African identity and re-establish Africa as an original home to all.
Anyiam-Osigwe said Africa Unites to her means » a way of unification with the world; a reflection of Africa’s desire to be a respected member of the world stage ».
Films are the vehicle for unity; they have the power to connect people. These films’ stories and characters generate a bond with their audience allowing them to relate to and feel Africa.
African filmmakers in Africa and the diaspora will be showcased alongside their counterparts from all across the globe as the world of film converges for this much-anticipated event.
