Murmures

A call for papers is open to edit book entitled Cinema and Social Discourse in Cameroon. The suggested title indicates the theoretical orientations: cinema as a language, an ideological discourse. It is intended to be a set of filmic topoi that institute Cameroon as distinct a national cinema, with its specific discourse. Its nature is pre-determined by a sociopolitical context: that of oneness and monocracy, which resulted into redundant themes like inter-tribal marriage and bride price. This differs from the post-1990 productions that overtly address some burning national issues.

Some of the ideas and themes that the book would examine include: The politics of image; Subversion strategies; Representations and identities; National unity and cinema; New languages; The (post)colonial state; Gender trouble; Dictatorship and culture; Film distribution and consumption in Cameroon; National television and the production of image; Aesthetics and film.
