Sey Wava (Moses Isegawa)

Moses Isegawa (Sey Wava de son vrai nom) est né en 1963 en Ouganda.

Après des études dans un séminaire catholique, il est durant quatre années professeur d’histoire. Dans les années 90, Moses Isegawa s’exile aux Pays-Bas et obtient en 1995 la nationalité néerlandaise.

Son premier roman, Chroniques Abyssiennes, publié en 1998, est une saga magistrale de l’Afrique du XXe siècle par un jeune écrivain ougandais. Traduit dans une quinzaine de langues, cette parution est suivie de La Fosse aux serpents (1999), où l’auteur revient sur la situation en Ouganda sous le régime du dictateur Idi Amin Dada. Son dernier roman, The War of the ears, paru en 2007 a pour thème les enfants soldats en Ouganda.

Biography:

Also known as Sey Wava (born 10 August 1963), is a Ugandan author. He has written novels set against the political turmoil of Uganda, which he left in 1990 for the Netherlands. His debut novel, Abyssinian Chronicles, was first published in Amsterdam in 1998, selling more than 100,000 copies and gaining him widespread national attention.

It was also very well reviewed when published in English in the United Kingdom and United States, in 2001. Isegawa became a naturalized Dutch citizen, but he returned to live in Uganda in 2006.
