Fred Kudjo Kuwornu

Cinéaste et militant Ghanéen-Italien.

Fred « Kudjo » Kuwornu, un producteur-scénariste-réalisateur et militant, est né et a grandi en Italie. Il vit à Brooklyn (USA).
Sa mère est une juive italienne, et son père est chirurgien ghanéen qui vit en Italie depuis le début des années 1960. Fred Kuwornu a une Licence en Science Politique et Mass Media (Université de Bologne). Adolescent, il début comme DJ et Producteur. Plus tard, il emménage à Rome où il commence à travailler pour une émission de TV comme scénariste à la RAI (la télé publique).
Ayant fait l’expérience de travailler dans l’équipe de production du film « Miracle à St. Anna » du réalisateur Spike Lee, Kuwornu décide de mener des recherches sur l’histoire ignorée de la 92è Division d’Infanterie, les « Buffalo Soldiers », révélant et documentant le périple des vétérans de la vraie 92ème d’Infanterie, et l’unité de combat des Africains-Américains totalement sous le coup d’une infâme ségragation qui se sont battus durant la 2ème Guerre Mondiale.
Ainsi Kuwornu produisit et réalisa le documentaire multiprimé Inside Buffalo (« Best Documentary » at the Black Berlin International Cinema Festival). Inside Buffalo a été projeté au Pentagon, à la Bibliothèque du Congrès américain (Library of Congress) et il a reçu une lettre de félicitations par le Président Barack Obama. En 2012, Il sort 18 IUS SOLI qui examine le multiculturalisme en Italie mais aussi interroge en particulier les questions de citoyenneté le million d’enfants d’immigrants nés et grandi en Italie qui ne sont toujours pas considérés comme citoyens italiens.
Puis BlaxploItalian (2016. 52 min. Italie / USA), un documentaire sur les carrières, identités et triomphes d’une classe obscure et rarement reconnue d’artistes européens : les acteurs noirs dans le cinéma italien.
Il est le fondateur de l’Association Diversity Italia afin de promouvoir l’importance de la diversité raciale et ethnique en Italie et en Europe en utilisant le cinéma et d’autres formes d’art comme outils pour construire une société plus inclusive.

Ghanaian-Italian filmmaker.

Fred « Kudjo » Kuwornu, an activist-producer-writer-director, was born and raised in Italy and based in Brooklyn.
His mother is an Italian Jew, and his father a Ghanaian surgeon who lived in Italy since the early 60’s. Fred Kuwornu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Mass Media, from the University of Bologna. As a teenager, he started his career as a DJ and Producer. Later, he moved to Rome where he began working as a TV show writer for RAI public television.
After his experience working with the production crew of Spike
Lee’s « Miracle at St. Anna », Kuwornu decided to research the unknown story of the 92nd Infantry « Buffalo Soldiers » Division, discovering and documenting the journey taken by the real 92nd Infantry veterans, and the entire African American segregated combat unit, which fought in Europe during WW II.
Kuwornu thus produced and directed the Award-winning documentary Inside Buffalo (« Best Documentary » at the Black Berlin International Cinema Festival). Inside Buffalo had viewings at the Pentagon, the Library of Congress and it received a letter of congratulations by President Barack Obama. In 2012, he released 18 IUS SOLIwhich examines multiculturalism in Italy but also specifically looks at questions of citizenship for the one millionchildren of immigrants born and raised in Italy but who are not yet Italian citizens.
Then BlaxploItalian (2016. 52 min. Italy, USA), a documentary that explores the careers, identities and triumphs of an obscure and rarely recognized class of European entertainers: Black actors in Italian cinema.
He is the founder of the Association Diversity Italia promoting the importance of racial and ethnic diversity in Italy and Europe using film and other art forms as toolsfor building a more inclusive society.
