Executive Director of the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and former director of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Farai Mpfunya exemplifies the post-modern knowledge-worker. Having studied French language at a higher diploma level and then reading Electronics Engineering and Industrial Information Processing in Toulouse, France, he went on to work in telecoms, electronics and IT industries in Paris, Harare and London. Global corporations like Thomson CSF, IBM and Reuters employed him. In the 1990s, he went into semi-retirement running a small creative design company from Christon Bank, Mazowe Valley before starting yet another career building Arts and Culture organisations. He also has training in filmmaking and holds a Masters in Business Administration. Farai strongly believes that small organisations play a vital role in social and economic development, especially in Africa. He has developed hands-on practical skills and experience in knowledge and relationship management and champions the use of open creativity in organizational strategy, areas that were of special focus in his MBA dissertation. Creative multi-lingual (Shona, English, French) leader with a passion for building learning-organisations. Small organisation strategist with a special interest in capabilities and competencies evolution in small organisations; led the transformation of an international film festival into a regional Trust with four solid programmes and currently heading one of the biggest funding organisations in Zimbabwe’s culture sector having been a founding trustee. The Trust has awarded over 1000 grants since 2004. Leadership and Organisational Strategy facilitator who is developing mentorship models for arts and culture practitioners. Fund raising expert with wide range of international exposure and experience.
