Le musicien sénégalais Diabel Cissokho possède un riche héritage musical, étant issu d?une famille de musiciens griots. Il a grandi à Dakar et sa carrière de musicien a démarré dans le groupe familial, où il jouait différents instruments traditionnels.
Le talent et l?affinité particulière qu?il a développés avec la kora se sont manifestés dès l?âge de 9 ans. Il y a trois ans, Diabel a choisi Londres comme ville d?attache européenne . Il y est le joueur de kora attitré de la star internationale Baaba Maal, et s?implique aux côtés d?autres artistes comme Nuru Kane, Daby Balde, Abdou Diop, Kandia Kouyate et Mama Draba un peu partout dans le monde. Lors d?un concert spécial donné au Barbican de Londres, il a accompagné Femi Kuti, Cheikh Lo et Manu Dibango. La virtuosité de Diabel, son expressivité et la sensibilité de son jeu lui valent le respect unanime de ses pairs ; ils croisent les genres musicaux sur une palette qui s?étend de la musique traditionnelle africaine jusqu?au jazz et à l?Afrobeat. Il aime ainsi exprimer son amour pour la musique traditionnelle et la ?world music?, en s?inspirant de son héritage et de sa foi en Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Bamke (cheikh fondateur de la confrérie Mouride).

Senegalese musician Diabel Cissokho comes from a well known griot family originating from Mali. Surrounded by a rich musical heritage and a family of musicians, he began playing the kora at the age of nine. Growing up in Dakar he played in his family’s band playing many traditional instruments. However his talent for playing the kora was clear. For two – three years he was the kora player for the internationally renowned Baba Maal and has supported and played with numerous other artists in concert venues and festivals across the world. These include; Nuru Kane, Abdou Diop, Kandia Kouyate and Mama Draba. He was also part of a special concert at the Barbican in London, performing alongside Femi Kuti and his band, Cheikh Lo and Manu Dibango. Diabel’s virtuosic talent, as well as his expressiveness and sensitivity when playing has brought him much respect amongst his fellow musicians, who cross many genres of music from traditional African, to jazz and Afro-beat. Currently he is working on his own material in which he fuses his love of traditional and world music, taking inspiration from his heritage and from his faith in Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Bamke (Mouride).
