Juan Carlos Tabío a été associé à la plupart des grands films cubains de ces dernières années. Il a co-réalisé « Fraise et Chocolat » et « Guantanamera », avec le regretté Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. « Lista De Espera (Liste d’attente) » en 2000, est son troisième long métrage après « Se Permuta » en 1984, « Plaff » en 1988 and « Elephant and the Bicycle » en 1995.
