Jojo Abot is a Ghanaian Afrobeat and jazz singer. She hails from the Volta Region of Ghana, home of the spiritual and emotional Ewe people. She found her passion and talent when, as she describes it, she was « discovered by music » in a pub in Brooklyn, New York. That fateful night started her journey which ultimately led her back to her home country. For the last two years, she’s lived in Accra, exploring the native beats and sounds of her home within Accra’s burgeoning creative community. Her influences include Afrobeats legend Fela Kuti, highlife legend Ebo Taylor, Nigeria’s neo-soul singer Asa, Australia’s jazz singer Sia and jazz greats like Billie Holiday.

Jojo has featured prominently in Accra’s independent music festivals IndieFuse and ChaleWote Street Art Festival. Her major solo shows include appearances at Alliance Francaise in Accra, Goethe Institute, National Theatre and the Movenpick Ambassadorial Hotel, hosted by Rotary International. She has also appeared in many live shows at Accra’s best jazz spots, +233 Jazz club, Taverna Tropicana, and in live venues in New York City. A talented entertainer, she has also worked as a model and actress, most recently as the lead actress in Kweku Ananse, a Focus Features short that premiered at Berlinale Film Festival in February and recently won the prestigious African Movie Awards. With her music she hopes to be the voice of her people and a contributor to the growth and development of her country Ghana.
