Né à Bourges en France en 1968, Cyrille Cornu mène des recherches articulant biodiversité et information spatiale depuis une dizaine d’année au Centre de coopération international en recherche agronomique pour le développement. Son travail l’a amené à voyager dans de nombreux pays. Il étudie notamment les forêts tropicales sèches en utilisant des images satellites et caractérise leur diversité biologique, la déforestation et l’impact du changement climatique. Depuis 7 ans, il se consacre plus spécifiquement à l’étude des baobabs de Madagascar dont il est devenu l’un des grands spécialistes. Chaque année, il organise des expéditions uniques en leur genre au cours desquelles il mobilise des moyens de transport locaux pour accéder au cœur de forêts où vivent les géants. L’île de Madagascar est une grande source d’inspiration pour cinéastes et photographes. Nature et paysages y sont exceptionnels. La diversité culturelle y est également remarquable. Cyrille est passionné de photographie depuis de nombreuses années. Avec Baobabs entre Terre et Mer (2015), il vise un nouvel objectif, celui de partager l’une de ses expéditions dans un film documentaire qui est sa première réalisation ! La narration est intimement liée au voyage. Contenu et forme évoluent au rythme des rencontres et découvertes pour tenter de placer le spectateur au coeur de l’aventure.

Cyrille was born at Bourges, France in 1968. He has been researching ecological issues for over ten years, studying tropical dry forests and using satellite images to characterize their biodiversity, degree of deforestation and the impacts of climate change. His work has led him to travel to many countries. For the last seven years he has focused on the baobabs of Madagascar and has become one of the world’s leading specialists. Each year he organizes unique expeditions that use local traditional transport to access the heart of isolated forests that are home to the baobabs. The island of Madagascar is a great source of inspiration for filmmakers and photographers. It is unique in many ways. Its biodiversity and landscapes are exceptional, and the social diversity is remarkable. Cyrille has been a keen photographer for many years but with Baobabs between Land and Sea (2015), his first documentary film, he has evolved to another level. The desire to share his adventures is at the heart of his approach to filming, sharing his travels through nature and encounters with the people living in wild regions. The story of his first film is intimately related to traveling. Content and form change to the rhythm of different encounters and discoveries placing the viewer at the very heart of the voyage.
