MICHEL BALAGUé

Michel Balagué is based in Berlin since 2005. He has produced and co-produced films by directors such as Hanna Slak, Tamer El Said, Filipa César, Leila Albayaty, Mais Darwazah, and Marcin Malaszczak. Between 2010 and 2015 he was co-director of Mengamuk Films.

Furthermore, Michel has produced art films by Cyprien Gaillard, Terence Koh, Tarek Atoui, Bárbara Wagner/Benjamin de Búrca and many others. Besides these individual collaborations, he was commissioned to make films for international institutions including Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Kunst-Werke in Berlin, Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, The Yokohoma Triennial, and the Cimatheque in Cairo. He also produced films by and with the art curators Hila Peleg and Catherine David.

Michel was selected for the 2014 Emerging Producers Program in Jihlava. He participated in the Studio program of the New Horizons Festival in Wrocław and in the Berlinale Talents 2014 program. He was invited to join different co-production platforms such as FID-LAB (Marseille), Open Doors Locarno, and the Torino Film Lab. For his work as DOP he has won several awards.

Michel is a co-founder of LaborBerlin e.V., an artist run film association for super8 and 16mm practices. He ran numerous film workshops in Berlin, Cairo, Beirut, Budapest and Vilnius, teaching super8 and 16mm techniques, including filming, film processing, editing and projecting.
