Her factual on-screen work, which focuses on Pacific themes, includes the 10-part « Waka Warriors » series, the « Real Pasifik » series and the feature-length documentary « Te Mana o te Moana: The Pacific Voyagers » along with « LOIMATA, The Sweetest Tears » (2020).

For the last seven years Anna has directed extensively across the South Pacific.

Anna Marbrook has a career spanning nearly 30 years as a director in television film theatre and community engagement projects.

For the last seven years Anna has directed extensively across the South Pacific. With Zoomslide she created and series directed the ten part Waka Warriors following three young people as they circumnavigate New Zealand on twin hulled voyaging canoes. Anna directed the feature length documentary « Te Mana o te Moana, the Pacific Voyagers » winner of a silver world medal at the New York Film and TV awards. Anna created and series directed two seasons of Real Pasifik for TVNZ – both finalists in the New York Film and TV awards.

Anna’s work traverses documentary and drama. For TV3 she wrote and directed the one-hour documentary « A Little Love Story ». For South Pacific Pictures Anna directed over 150 episodes of serial drama « Shortland Street ». She directed four half hour dramas for Maori Television under the umbrella of Table Plays an initiative to develop new writers in provincial areas.

Anna co-produced the short film Jumbo which screened at the Auckland, Melbourne and Clairmont Ferrand festivals and was winner of best cinematography at the NZ Screen awards. She co-directed short film « The Rules of Dogs and Men ».

In theatre Anna co-founded Theatre at Large devising and directing both new work and classics including King Lear with Ian Mune, Rachel House and Miranda Harcourt, Manawa Taua/Savage Hearts with Cliff Curtis and Rachel House, Cyrano de Bergerac with Cameron Rhodes & Jacob Rajan. These works toured New Zealand and international festivals. In 2018 Anna wrote and directed « Waka Odyssey » that opened the New Zealand Festival drawing a crowd of 20 000 people and 200 000 participants online.
