Akinleye Akintunde

Né en 1971, Akintunde Akinleye est le premier photographe nigérian à recevoir le prestigieux World Press Photo, en 2007 avec la photographie emblématique d’un homme rinçant son visage suit à l'explosion d'un pipeline, à Lagos en décembre 2006. Cette tragédie qui a coûté la vie à 269 personnes est choisie en 2007 comme affiche officielle de la 19^e édition de Visa pour l’image, le festival international du photojournalisme de Perpignan, France.

Akintunde Akinleye a participé à de nombreuses conférences et séminaires sur la photographie documentaire et l’éditorial en Ethiopie, au Kenya et à Lagos. Il a présenté son travail à l’Université de Stanford aux Etats-Unis, à Amsterdam et dans les villes qui comptes à travers le monde.

 

En juin 2008, il produit une série sur la production pétrolière au Texas dans le cadre d’un programme de bourse à l’Université du Texas à Dallas. Il fut également en résidence à la Thami Mnyele Art foundation à Amsterdam.



En 2012, Akintunde est nominé au Prix Pictet photography, premier prix consacré au développement durable pour son travail : Delta, A vanishing wetland.



Après l'obtention d'un baccalauréat en études sociales, Akintunde Akinleye a complété deux maîtrises en technologie éducative et en communication de masse à l'Université de Lagos et un diplôme d'études supérieures en journalisme à l'Institut nigérian de journalisme.

Akintunde Akinleye a exposé son travail à Washington, Los Angeles, New Mexico, Lagos, Amsterdam, Graz, Bamako, Madrid, Munich, Royaume-Uni, Pordenone en Italie. Il reçoit régulièrement des commandes entre autres sur la culture et les traditions en Afrique dernièrement en Mauritanie, au Niger et au Nigeria.

Il vit à Lagos et travaille pour Reuters au Nigeria.





Akintunde Akinleye, 1971, is the first Nigerian Photographer to have been awarded a prize in the prestigious World Press Photo, Netherlands in 2007 with an iconic photograph of a man rinsing soot from his face at the scene of an oil pipeline explosion in Lagos, December 2006. It was the beauty of a tragedy which claimed the lives of 269 people that made the official signage of the 19th edition of international photojournalism festival in perpignan, France in 2007.



An award fellow of the National Geographic Society- All Roads photo project, Akintunde has attended conferences and seminars in editorial and documentary photography in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Lagos. He has made presentations of his work and papers at the University of Stanford in the United States, Amsterdam and other major cities around the world. 

In June 2008, while attending a fellowship programme at the University of Texas at Dallas artistes' project, he produced a body of work that culminates oil production in Texas. He was a resident fellow of the Thami Mnyele Art foundation in Amsterdam.

In 2012, Akintunde was nominated for Prix Pictet photography award on sustainability for his work :Delta,A vanishing wetland.



He has read for two master's degrees in Educational Technology and Mass Communication at the university of Lagos and a post-graduate diploma in Journalism at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, after a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies.

Akintunde has had his work exhibited in Washington, Los Angeles, New Mexico, Lagos, Amsterdam, Graz, Bamako,Madrid, Munich, U.K and Pordenone in Italy. He had once been commissioned for assignments in Mauritania, Niger and Nigeria and currently pursue projects in African culture and traditions!

He lives in Lagos and works for Reuters in Nigeria.
