Kofi OFOSU-YEBOAH est un Réalisateur, Scénariste et Producteur.
Il est connu pour « Public Toilet Africa – Amansa Tiafi (2021, Réalisateur / Scénariste / Producteur).
Né au Ghana, Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah suit les traces de ses ancêtres, Djibril Diop Mambèty et Fela Kuti. Le cinéma est son arme de prédilection. Sa trajectoire est marquée par une poétique du refus.
Son objectif est une rivière qui traverse mille villages, reflétant l’espoir et les aspirations du peuple africain. Titulaire d’un BFA en production télévisuelle du National Film and Television Institute d’Accra et d’un MFA du Columbia College Chicago Cinema Art + Science, il se considère aujourd’hui comme un apostat de l’académie et du cinéma commercial. Cette position découle de sa foi renouvelée dans le troisième cinéma et de son engagement à créer des œuvres et à défendre une pédagogie du cinéma ayant un impact direct sur le changement social.
Le travail d’Ofosu-Yeboah s’étend sur quatre continents. Il a enseigné la télévision à l’Institut national du film et de la télévision d’Accra et a participé à une résidence à l’Association chinoise de la radio et de la télévision, à Pékin, ainsi qu’à la Master Class documentaire de Serbie (InterDoc). En 2014, il a reçu une bourse de The Gamechangers Project, un programme national de bourses basé aux États-Unis pour les cinéastes émergents de couleur. Il a également reçu, entre autres, le prix Albert P. Weisman, Chicago, et la bourse du programme des artistes individuels (IAP) du département des affaires culturelles et des événements spéciaux (DCASE) de la ville de Chicago. Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah a développé du contenu médiatique pour le Black Public Media du National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC). Le cinéaste a présenté son travail lors de la réunion annuelle de l’Association universitaire du film et de la vidéo (UFVA) à l’American University de Washington, D.C. et à la Montana State University de Bozeman. En 2016, il présente de nouvelles œuvres à la prestigieuse Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) à Bauta, à Cuba. En plus de terminer la postproduction à Chicago de son dernier court métrage, Akata, Ofosu-Yeboah a développé son premier long, Public Toilet Africa, dont l’action se déroule dans son pays natal, le Ghana.
