Riches

Despite obvious educational intentions, Riches is both moving and convincing. Molly, the teacher, emanates positive energy in her attempts to make a place for herself in her new country after fleeing apartheid-era South Africa. Despite even greater disillusionment, she maintains her sense of dignity. In fact, this is the key message of this beautiful film – do not judge Africa by its apparent poverty.
Adapted from the novel by Bessie Head, the now-defunct great South African writer, Riches teaches us to always dig deeper in order to bring out the divine in each of us (just like the young girl in the story that Molly tells her pupils). And this particularly applies to women, as shown in the Mama Africa film series produced by South African production company, Zimmedia.
