Illume Ltd
Illume Ltd is a production company specialised in creative documentary filmmaking. Illume has produced more than 80 documentary and fiction features as well as factual TV series and experimental short films since the company was founded in 1987. It is one of the largest documentary film production companies in Finland, and unique in its investment in new documentaries. Illume has a wealth of experience of productions in Finland, Soviet Union and Russia, the Baltic region, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Africa and India.

Illume has been able to increase its production budgets considerably in the last ten years through international co-operation and increased international distribution. The company now employs dozens of freelancers internationally every year, consequently co-productions and distribution have been extended to Scandinavia, the Baltic region and more recently the rest of Europe.

Illume Ltd aims to produce documentary films that are entertaining and inspire debate about culture, politics, religion and humanity as a whole. Illume’s editorial team selects projects that are historically and culturally important particularly to the Finnish audience and the company has become an expert in producing films that speak of our national identity. Illume Ltd’s second main line of work is in films where the focus is on themes that appeal to wider audiences and subjects that have universal relevance. The company has had ten feature lenght films in cinema release and Illume’s films have been shown at film festivals worldwide.

Jouko Aaltonen
Jouko Aaltonen (born 1956) has directed numerous documentaries with subjects ranging from the Siberian taiga to the diplomatic circles of New Delhi. He is also a popular lecturer and an author of study books on cinema.

Venla Hellstedt
She returned to work in her native Helsinki in 2009, after nearly 14 years in the UK.

Maarit Mononen
She has graduated as a forestry engineer specializing in marketing from North Karelia University of Applied Sciences.

Illume Oy

Illume Oy on vuonna 1987 perustettu laadukkaaseen dokumenttielokuvatuotantoon erikoistunut tuotantoyhtiö. Tähän päivään mennessä se on tuottanut yli 80 pitkää dokumenttielokuvaa ja fiktiota, sekä myös asiapitoisia TV sarjoja ja kokeellisia lyhytelokuvia. Illume on yksi Suomen suurimmista dokumenttielokuvaan erikoistuneista tuotantoyhtiöistä. Illumella on laaja kokemus tuotannoista Suomessa, Neuvostoliitossa ja Venäjällä, Baltian alueella, Itä-Euroopassa, Skandinaviassa, Afrikassa ja Intiassa.
Illume on onnistunut kasvattamaan tuotantobudjettejaan viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana kansainvälisten yhteistuotantojen ja lisääntyneen ulkomaan levityksen avulla. Yhtiö työllistää vuosittain kymmeniä kansainvälisesti toimivia freelancereita, joiden avulla yhteistuotannot ja levitys ovat laajentuneet Skandinaviassa, Baltian alueella ja ympäri Eurooppaa.
Illume pyrkii tuottamaan dokumenttielokuvia, jotka ovat viihdyttäviä ja aiheuttavat keskustelua kulttuurista, politiikasta, uskonnosta ja ihmisyydestä ylipäätänsä.
