Situé sur une colline de Tunis, le cimetière du Jellaz est le lieu d’une conversation ininterrompue entre les vivants et les morts, depuis plus de huit siècles. C’est ici que sont enterrés tous les grands personnages du pays : les héros de l’indépendance, mais aussi les martyrs de la révolution de 2011. Le cimetière est également un haut lieu du mysticisme, rassemblant de nombreux mausolées de saints. Le plus célèbre, Sidi Belhassen Chadhly, un saint soufi du XIIIe siècle, a donné au Jellaz son aura spirituelle. Son mausolée domine le cimetière, ainsi que toute la ville de Tunis. Mais le Jellaz est aussi le lieu de vie d’une population marginale, à la périphérie de la ville.

Located on a hill in Tunis, the Jellaz cemetery has been the place of uninterrupted conversation between the living and the dead for more than eight centuries. It is here that all the great figures of the country are buried: the heroes of independence, but also the martyrs of the 2011 revolution. The cemetery is also a high place of mysticism, bringing together many mausoleums of saints. The most famous, Sidi Belhassen Chadhly, a 13th century Sufi saint, gave Jellaz its spiritual aura. His mausoleum dominates the cemetery, as well as the whole city of Tunis. But Jellaz is also the place of life of a marginal population, on the outskirts of the city.
