À l'âge de vingt ans, j'ai quitté ma ville natale, Hambourg, pour Paris, afin de mener une vie loin des chemins tous tracés par ma famille. Je ne savais pas ce que je cherchais, juste la certitude de ce que je voulais fuir : la tradition familiale, la musique par exemple. À travers mon métier de photographe, je travaille depuis longtemps sur des questions d'identité et d'appartenance. Après vingt années passées aux bords de la Seine, je suis retournée à Hambourg pour savoir ce que la ville portuaire de mon enfance représente pour moi en termes de racines et de "heimat" (en anglais "home", là d'où je viens). Un journal filmé, où mon propre témoignage s'entrecroise avec des bribes d'histoires personnelles et différents protagonistes rencontrés à Hambourg. At the age of twenty, I left my hometown, Hamburg, for Paris to lead a life far from the paths all laid out by my family. I didn't know what I was looking for, just the certainty of what I wanted to run away from: family tradition, music for example. Through my work as a photographer, I have been working for a long time on questions of identity and belonging. After twenty years on the banks of the Seine, I returned to Hamburg to find out what the port city of my childhood meant to me in terms of roots and "heimat" (in English "home", where I come from). A filmed diary, where my own testimony intertwines with snippets of personal stories and different protagonists I met in Hamburg.
