Fondée par un groupe de cinéastes passionnés en 1963, la Cinémathèque québécoise est aujourd’hui une institution majeure dont la mission est d’acquérir, documenter et sauvegarder le patrimoine cinématographique, télévisuel et audiovisuel québécois ainsi que le cinéma d’animation international, collectionner des œuvres significatives du cinéma canadien et mondial, pour en assurer la mise en valeur à des fins culturelles et éducatives.

Située au cœur du Quartier des spectacles de Montréal, la Cinémathèque est avant tout un lieu d’inspiration, d’échange et de partage ouvert sur la société. Ayant comme moteur la passion du 7e art depuis ses débuts, la Cinémathèque québécoise propose aux artistes, aux citoyens ainsi qu’aux professionnels des initiatives et activités inclusives, pertinentes et audacieuses qui permettent d’entrer en phase avec la création.

The Cinémathèque québécoise was founded in 1963 by a passionate group of filmmakers. Today, it is a major institution whose mission is to acquire, document and safeguard Quebec’s cinema, television and audio-visual heritage, as well as that of international animation. It also collects significant works of Canadian and world cinema for screenings focused on culture and education.

Located in the heart of Montreal’s entertainment district, the Quartier des spectacles, the Cinémathèque is above all a place of inspiration, discussion and sharing based on a philosophy of openness. Film has been the Cinémathèque’s driving force since its inception. Today the institution offers artists, professionals and the public inclusive, relevant and bold initiatives and activities that help participants fully grasp the creative process.
