Ola Balogun – Pioneer of Nigerian cinema, At Arsenal
13-19 janvier 2017. VENUE: Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst e.V. (Potsdamer Straße 2, Berlin).

Français

Ola Balogun (*1945) is an unique figure in Nigerian cinema. In the 1970s and 1980s, he influenced the film industry in his country like no other person and paved the way for the Nollywood boom that began in the early 1990s.
The reason that he has largely been forgotten outside of Nigeria today has a lot to do with the fact that many of the prints of his films have been lost. Only five of his 10 feature-length films are currently available – most in a fragile state. We are very pleased to be able to show them at Arsenal.
