Dans une ville comme Vandernoot City, la pauvreté finit toujours par mener à la prison… 1950: le destin d’un jeune homme est scellé le soir où il accepte de suivre un ami dans les rues étroites du quartier sud. 1980: l’homme vient de fêter sa trentième année d’incarcération au pénitencier. Son monde? L’aile nord du bâtiment C, où il purge une peine à perpétuité. Un univers en vase-clos, nourri de secrets et d’événements inexpliqués. Comme le dit un co-détenu, « on ne meurt pas qu’une fois au pénitencier ». Pour l’homme, à qui sa fille continue à rendre visite, sa place est ici: en enfer…
