Octobre 1977. En plein vol entre Palma de Majorque et Marseille, le Boeing 737-200 de la Lufthansa (vol LF 181) est pris en otage par quatre terroristes et détourné sur Rome, Dubai, Aden puis Mogadiscio (Somalie). La prise d'otages durera cinq jours. Le chef des terroristes menace de faire sauter l'avion, après avoir abattu le commandant de bord. En Somalie, dans la nuit du 17 octobre 1977, les forces spéciales allemandes (le GSG-9) sont autorisées à intervenir. Le GSG-9 ("Grenzschutzgruppe 9") est le commando allemand qui sauvera tous les 90 otages et tuera trois des quatre terroristes.

In October 1977, a terror squad called the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacks Lufthansa Flight 181 from Palma de Mallorca with 86 people on board. In solidarity with the German terrorists of the Red Army Faction (RAF), the PFLP wants to force the release of 11 RAF prisoners from German jails, plus million in cash. When German chancellor Helmut Schmidt decides not to give in to the terrorist's demands, an odyssey begins which leads the flight from Rome to Cyprus, Bahrain, Dubai and Aden, to Mogadishu in Somalia. Lead by "Captain Martyr Mahmud" and consisting of two men and two women, the hijackers grow ever more nervous and ruthless. In Yemen, the government blocks the runway to prevent their landing, and Captain Schumann has to emergency-land in the sand. When the pilot takes too long inspecting the plane afterwards, Mahmud kills him execution-style in front of all the passengers in the aisle. The co-pilot is forced to fly the plane to Somalia, with the captain's body still on board. That's when the green light is given to take the plane by force, and one of the most daring and successful counter-terror operations ever begins.
Based on dramatic real events, Germany's top director Roland Suso Richter ("Dresden", "The Tunnel") has created a breathtaking thriller.


The GSG-9 ("Grenzschutzgruppe 9" : "Border Guard Group 9", in German) is Germany's anti-terrorist commando group.
On the night of October 17, 1977, they stormed the hi-jacked Lufthansa plane (LF 181) in Mogadishu, Somalia, rescuing all 90 hostages and killing three of the four hijackers.
