In the poverty stricken Cape Flats in Cape Town, South Africa, druggie Bernie Baaitjies dreams of hitting the big time like his Dallas TV hero, JR Ewing. Problem is, Bernie is no JR. Dollars & White Pipes is based on the true story of Bernie Baaitjies, from his upbringing making zip-guns for the Cape Flats gangs in the eighties, to clubs, drugs and protection rackets in the organized crime world of the Cape Town club land in the nineties. On his journey from rags to hell, Bernie double crosses, lies, steals and deals JR would have been proud. But unlike his TV idol, Bernie lacks « plak », street slang for ultimate courage, a killer instinct, someone who is not afraid to use death and violence. Will Bernie stop being a wimp, and rise to prominence in the most powerful gang in Cape Town, or will he just be nothing for the rest of his life.
