Le soleil se couche sur la baie d’Alger. Les murs de la ville commencent à perdre leur blanc éclatant, laissant place à la réalité de la nuit, claire et éclairée par des lumières électriques décolorées. Certains jeunes patineurs en ligne parcourent les rues de la capitale, capturant une vidéo d’eux-mêmes à publier sur Internet. Un homme d’âge moyen erre sans but. Une jeune prostituée commence sa « nuit ». Certains jeunes gens riches et inactifs vont à la discothèque. Un photographe parle de son art. Une femme insomniaque a peur de sortir de sa maison. Tous racontent leurs histoires. Tout le monde ne verra pas le lever du soleil.

The sun sets over the Bay of Algiers. The city walls start to lose their shiny white, making room for the reality of the night, plain and lit by faded electric lights. Some young in-line skaters raid the streets of the capital, capturing video of themselves to post on the Internet. A middle-aged man roams without purpose. A young prostitute starts her ‘night’. Some wealthy, idle young men go clubbing. A photographer speaks of her art. An insomniac woman is afraid to step out of her home. All tell their stories. Not all will see the sun rise.

تهبط الشمس عند خليج الجزائر. تلفّ الظلمة الجدران البيضاء للعاصمة ويحلّ الليل وتسطع الأنوار الخافتة. يجتاح المتزلجون شوارع العاصمة ويلتقطون مقاطع لهم لينشروها على الانترنت. ثمة رجل في متوسط العمر يتجوّل على غير هدىً. وهناك فتاة ليل قد بدأت توها ليلتها. أيضاً بعض الشباب الأثرياء والكسالى قد بدؤوا سهرتهم في النوادي الليلية. نستمع إلى مصوّرة فوتوغرافية تتحدث عن فنّها، وهناك امرأة تشعر بالأرق ولكنها خائفة من الخروج. كل هؤلاء يخبروننا قصصهم ولكن معظمهم لن يتمكن من رؤية شروق الشمس
