A Porto Novo au Bénin, il reste un village qui a accumulé les témoignages des différentes époques qui s’y sont succédées. Ce village serait né à la suite d’un combat entre trois chasseurs et un monstre à neuf têtes, selon la légende. Durant la traite négrière, une partie de ses habitants fut envoyée au Brésil. Lorsque l’esclavage a été aboli, ils sont rentrés chez eux, rapportant dans leurs bagages un mode architectural qu’ils appliquèrent à leur menière à Porto Novo. Les habitations se regroupent autour d’un temple animiste, chaque bâtisse a sa fonction et leurs décorations font preuve d’un esthétisme rare.

In Porto Novo, Benin, there remains a village which gathered records from all eras. This village is said to be born from a fight between three hunters and a nine-headed monster, according to legend. During the slave trade, a part of its residents was sent in Brazil. When slavery was abolished, they came home, bringing in their luggage an architectural method that they applied in Porto Novo. The houses are gathered around an animistic temple, every building as a function and the decorations display rare esthetics.
