Fin du XIX ème siècle. Issue d’une famille de l’aristocratie russe, Isabelle Eberhardt passe sa jeunesse à Genève, où son père émigre en raison de son opposition au régime tsariste. A l’âge de vingt ans, elle décide avec sa mère, d’aller s’installer en Algérie, sous occupation française. L’itinéraire de cette jeune femme, déguisée en homme, convertie à la mystique des Zaouias, va croiser celui d’une population opprimée, déracinée et contrainte à l’errance. Destin individuel et destin collectif se confondent alors dans une quête d’amour de vérité et de liberté.

It’s the end of the 19th century. Coming from an aristocratic family, Isabelle Eberhardt spends her childhood in Geneva, where her father emigrates because of his opposition to the tsarist regime. When she is twenty years old, she decides, with her mother, to move to Algeria, under French occupation. The path this young woman will take, dressed as a man, converted to the mystique of the Zaouias, will cross that of an oppressed, uprooted people forced to wander. Individual and collective destiny merge into a search for the love of truth and freedom.
