Dans une petite mosquée du sud-ouest de la France, un dessin d’enfant représentant un personnage masqué fait polémique : super-héros ou djihadiste ? Amine, imam de profession, va devoir gérer l’ingérable.


Quand Amine, brillant professeur d’histoire des civilisations à Bordeaux, est courtisé par une université à Boston, il décide de partir s’installer aux États-Unis avec sa femme et ses enfants. Mais il doit d’abord régler la vente d’une maison de famille à Saint-Marsain, village du Sud-Ouest où il a grandi et où réside encore son père, Rachid, président du club de rugby local, ainsi que sa belle-mère. Lorsqu’il croise par hasard Jemel, un ami d’enfance devenu boucher et imam de la petite mosquée de Saint-Marsain, Amine découvre que son père a acheté les murs du local afin de le convertir en discothèque pour fêter les fins de matchs, condamnant de fait la mosquée. Furieux contre son père, avec lequel il entretient des relations conflictuelles, Amine fait annuler la vente de la maison. Quand les fidèles découvrent que Jemel agit en sous-main pour Rachid, ils lui retirent son titre d’imam et se mettent en quête d’un remplaçant. Amine ne serait-il pas le candidat idéal ?

Autodérision
Pour écrire cette comédie qui aborde avec autodérision le sujet des relations entre la France et l’islam, Zangro, producteur et cinéaste bordelais, s’est entouré de brillants scénaristes : Nacim Mehtar (La fin de l’été), le duo d’Ainsi soient-ils Vincent Poymiro et David Elkaïm, mais aussi d’un imam, Fouad Saanadi. Emmené par Lyes Salem (L’Oranais, Le grand bazar), Ramdam, à l’origine le pilote d’une série de vingt-six minutes récompensé au Festival de La Rochelle en 2017, explore avec finesse les relations familiales complexes lorsque la transmission entre les générations d’une identité plurielle n’est pas vécue par tous de la même manière.

In a small mosque in the south-west of France, a child’s drawing of a masked character is controversial: superhero or jihadist? Amine, an imam by profession, will have to deal with the unmanageable.


When Amine, a brilliant professor of the history of civilisations in Bordeaux, is courted by a university in Boston, he decides to move to the United States with his wife and children. But first he has to settle the sale of a family home in Saint-Marsain, a village in the south-west where he grew up and where his father, Rachid, president of the local rugby club, and his mother-in-law still live. When he came across Jemel, a childhood friend who had become a butcher and imam of the little mosque of Saint-Marsain, Amine discovered that his father had bought the walls of the premises to convert it into a disco to celebrate the end of matches, effectively condemning the mosque. Furious with his father, with whom he has a conflictual relationship, Amine has the sale of the house cancelled. When the faithful discover that Jemel is acting as an underhand for Rachid, they take away his title of imam and start looking for a replacement. Wouldn’t Amine be the ideal candidate?

Self-mockery
In order to write this comedy, which takes a self-mocking approach to the subject of relations between France and Islam, Zangro, a producer and filmmaker from Bordeaux, has surrounded himself with brilliant scriptwriters : Nacim Mehtar (The End of Summer), the duo of Ainsi soient-ils Vincent Poymiro and David Elkaïm, but also an imam, Fouad Saanadi. Led by Lyes Salem (L’Oranais, Le grand bazar), Ramdam, originally the pilot of a series of twenty-six minutes that won an award at the 2017 La Rochelle Festival, explores with finesse the complex family relationships when the transmission between generations of a plural identity is not experienced by all in the same way.
