Sanfield suit des aviateurs à l’entraînement sur la base Air Force 14th Training Wing à Columbus, dans le Mississippi. Par une approche d’observation, Kevin Jerome Everson poursuit ici son étude du quotidien de la communauté afro-américaine au sein de la société blanche amorcée il y a dix ans. Sanfield fait partie d’une série consacrée aux pilotes en formation. Kevin J. Everson a toujours cherché à montrer comment la main d’oeuvre afro-américaine a contribué à bâtir et modeler l’identité des États-Unis, alors que le pays lui refusait les droits les plus élémentaires. En retraçant le parcours de la classe ouvrière afro-américaine, son apport et ses films constituent un impressionnant travail d’anthropologie visuelle. Sanfield is a film about airmen training and working at Columbus Air Force Base 14th Flying Training Wing in Columbus, Mississippi. Through an observational approach, Everson continues his decade-long exploration of African-American lives in the fabric of white American society. Sanfield is part of a series of short films that focus on pilots’ lives during training. Kevin Jerome Everson’s quest has always been showing how the craft and the presence of African-American labour has shaped and forged the identity of the United States even though that very same country has refused them the basic rights to exist in it. Kevin J. Everson’s films becomes therefore an impressive body of work of visual anthropology, recollecting the traces of the African-American working class and its legacy. Seeds for an alternative history and memory.
