Quittant leur terre natale, ces hommes, ces femmes et leurs enfants arrivent dans une "patrie" que la plupart ne connaissent que très peu et où ils ne sont pas attendus. Qui étaient-ils ? Quelle était leur vie de l'autre côté de la Méditerranée ? Dans quelles conditions sont-ils revenus en France métropolitaine, comment sont-ils tant bien que mal parvenus à s'y intégrer ? A travers les témoignages de rapatriés, d'Algériens et d'historiens, retour sur l'histoire méconnue de ces "Pieds-noirs" d'Algérie.

In 1962, when Algeria became independent at the end of a heartbreaking conflict, nearly a million French people from Algeria had to go into exile. Leaving their homeland, these men, women and children arrived in a "homeland" that most of them knew very little about and where they were not expected. Who were they? What was their life like on the other side of the Mediterranean? Under what conditions did they come back to metropolitan France, how did they manage to integrate? Through the testimonies of returnees, Algerians and historians, a look back at the little-known history of these "Blackfoot" Algerians.
