Ya, Ly, Stéphane, Clément, et Aurore sont Hmong. Après avoir quitté précipitamment leurs montagnes laotiennes pour se réfugier dans des camps en Thaïlande et fuir le régime communiste, les Hmong ont été accueillis en Guyane par l’État français afin de peupler et cultiver les terres de l’ouest de la région. Dès leur arrivée sur le tarmac de l’aéroport Félix Éboué de Cayenne un soir de novembre 1979, un vent de liberté les envahit. Enfin, après toutes ces années d’attente, ils peuvent vivre leur vie et commencer à construire quelque chose, loin de leurs terres natales du Laos. 40 ans plus tard, comment la vie s’est-elle mise en place dans ce petit village de l’Ouest guyanais ? Comment les Hmong s’en sont-ils sortis ? Et comment perçoivent-ils l’avenir ?

Ya, Ly, Stephane, Clement, and Aurora are Hmong. After leaving their Laotian mountains in a hurry to take refuge in camps in Thailand and flee the communist regime, the Hmong were welcomed French Guiana by the French state to populate and cultivate the lands in the west of the region. As soon as they arrived on the tarmac of the Félix Éboué airport in Cayenne one evening in November 1979, a wind of freedom invaded them. At last, after all these years of waiting, they can live their lives and start building something, far from their native land of Laos. 40 years later, how did life take shape in this small village in West Guyana? How did the Hmong get by? And how do they see the future?

Ya, Ly, Stéphane, Clement y Aurora son Hmong. Tras abandonar sus montañas laosianas apresuradamente para refugiarse en campamentos en Tailandia y huir del régimen comunista, los hmong fueron acogidos Guayana Francesa por el Estado francés para poblar y cultivar las tierras del oeste de la región. Tan pronto como llegaron a la pista del aeropuerto Félix Éboué de Cayena una tarde de noviembre de 1979, un viento de libertad los invadió. Por fin, después de todos estos años de espera, pueden vivir sus vidas y empezar a construir algo, lejos de su tierra natal de Laos. 40 años más tarde, ¿cómo tomó forma la vida en este pequeño pueblo de Guyana Occidental? ¿Cómo se las arreglaron los Hmong? ¿Y cómo ven el futuro?
