Un film documentant la Section internationale de la délégation des Black Panthers en République populaire du Congo au printemps 1971.
Les Black Panthers et Eldridge Cleaver, qui vivait à l’époque en exil en Algérie, avaient été invités par l’Union socialiste de la jeunesse congolaise à assister à une conférence en solidarité avec les mouvements de libération dans les colonies portugaises. Ils restèrent dans la république marxiste-léniniste quelques semaines après la conférence, utilisant une des premières caméras vidéo pour documenter leur voyage. Les images ont été montées par Chris Marker à Paris, mais la vidéo achevée n’est jamais sortie et a été présumée perdue par tous. Une copie a été très récemment découverte à New York.

A rare and absolutely unknown work, made by Bill Stephens in collaboration with French filmmaker Chris Marker and Eldridge and Kathleen Cleaver. CONGO OYÉ was never completed and long believed lost until it was unearthed several years ago on video cassette from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
The film follows an exploratory visit by a delegation from the Black Panther Party to Africa’s first People’s Republic declared by President Marien Ngouabi (Brazzaville).
