2059, Tunisie. Une biopuce régule la mémoire et supprime les émotions. L'hypnothérapie est interdite, mais Taha consulte secrètement un hypnothérapeute. C'est un forgeron de pathos : à travers la poésie, il forge pour les autres des émotions qu'ils ne peuvent plus ressentir. Sous hypnose, Taha traverse une forêt et atteint une maison sans électricité et infestée de punaises de lit, surveillées par un voisin taciturne et curieux. A l'intérieur, un homme et deux femmes préparent une attaque suicide. La femme choisie pour porter la bombe est enceinte : leur chef a statué qu'un fœtus de moins de trois mois n'a pas d'âme. Dans la brume des pilules hallucinogènes, Taha comprend : le fœtus est lui-même. La police prend d'assaut la maison ; sa mère s'enflamme.

In 2059, a Tunisia governed by biotechnology has made forgetting impossible and feeling illegal. A biochip regulates every citizen's memory and dampens emotion at the source; hypnosis, the one practice that can loosen the chip's grip, is banned.
Taha earns his living at the edge of this order. Known as a "blacksmith of pathos," he forges emotion out of language, writing for others the grief, tenderness or longing they can no longer summon on their own. It is intimate, illicit work, and it isolates him: a disorder of speech keeps Taha at a distance from the very feelings he shapes so fluently for everyone else.
Looking for a way back to himself, he turns in secret to a hypnotherapist. Under hypnosis a forest opens before him and leads to a house without electricity, kept by a silent neighbour. What he finds inside pulls him into a past he was never meant to reach, and toward an unspeakable truth about his own birth.
As Taha crosses that threshold, the film itself begins to come apart. The clean image gives way to the unstable, degraded texture of 1970s video art, as if memory were decaying on tape. It closes on Taha reciting Eliot with a single word displaced - "not with a bang but a whisper" - the sound of an emotion that can no longer be felt, only spoken.

In segreto, Taha consulta un ipnoterapeuta: un fabbricante di pathos che, attraverso la poesia, forgia per i suoi assistiti emozioni a loro precluse. Sotto ipnosi, Taha attraversa una foresta e si ritrova davanti a una casa senza elettricità, infestata dagli insetti e spiata da un vicino curioso e taciturno. All'interno, un uomo e due donne stanno preparando un attentato suicida. La donna prescelta per trasportare l'ordigno è incinta. Il capo ha decretato che un feto al di sotto di tre mesi non possiede un'anima. Sebbene annebbiato dalle pastiglie allucinogene, Taha comprende che il feto è egli stesso. Un'incursione della polizia; sua madre si dà alle fiamme.
Kamel Laaridhi
Kamel Laaridhi (1970) ha studiato presso la Facoltà di Scienze di Tunisi e successivamente è entrato a far parte del Film Institute tunisino. Dopo essersi occupato dell'illuminazione di edifici e siti archeologici, ha debuttato nel mondo del cinema nel reparto fotografia di produzioni tunisine e internazionali. Cofondatore della casa di produzione Inside Productions nel 2011, nel 2012 ha seguito un corso di formazione riservato a giovani produttori, l'Access to Markets in the Digital Era.
