Ce film analyse l’appréhension, les rêves et les projets d’avenir de Randa, de Mohamed et de Darah. Randa souhaite aller au Canada, mais elle redoute une éventuelle crise d’identité pour son fils de quatre ans, après que celui-ci ait vu un reportage sur les Arabes à New York après le 11 septembre. Mohamed n’a pas réussi à devenir un chanteur célèbre au Caire et souhaite redémarrer une carrière en Australie. Darah a été élevée au Canada, mais sur l’insistance de sa mère, elle a dû retourner Egypte. Tout au long du film, une question posée : où se trouve mon « chez moi » ?

Dans une région en pleine mutation, ces égyptiens aspirent à émigrer pour trouver la stabilité économique, culturelle et religieuse. Ce film est l’histoire de 4 égyptiens qui tentent de trouver l’endroit qu’ils pourront appeler leur « chez soi ». Pour certains, cela signifie l’émigration, pour d’autres, c’est le lieu où ils sont déjà.

En suivant ces Égyptiens désireux d’émigrer, le cinéaste tente de détecter les véritables raisons qui les incitent à quitter leur pays.

Director Tamer Ezzat uses a cinéma vérité style to capture the stories of four Egyptians who dream of leaving their country in search of a better life. Myriam wants to move to Canada; Hams is on a quest to find a place where she can belong; Motaz’s limited income prevents him from obtaining the’simple things in life’; Sebaei wants to be a singer and thinks he can achieve his goal by emigrating. The director expresses their troubles and dreams with considerable style and vitality. The result is touching and dramatic, humorous and real.
