Amine, 12ans – fils de batelier et aîné d’une famille de trois enfants – se prépare comme à son habitude pour aller à l’école. Ce matin-là, son père est malade et ne pourra pas se rendre à son travail. Ayant conscience de la précarité de leur situation, Amine renonce à aller en classe, s’empare des rames et se rend sur les rives du fleuve, armé de bonne volonté, mais loin de se douter de ce qu’il attend.

Aware of their difficult financial situation, Amine decides not to go to school, takes the oars and goes down to the river full of good will. Little does he suspect what awaits him.
