Little Soldier
Lotte is a soldier. After a foreign assignment she returns to Denmark, physically and psychologically wounded. She doesn't find a job in her home country and so she accepts an offer from her father whom she sees only occasionally and becomes his driver. Her task is to drive Lily, a callgirl at her father's services who is also his lover. At first, Lotte is not interested in the fact that her father owns a callgirl organization and earns his money with trading human beings. What matters to her is to get her father's recognition which she has been missing for so many years. She has only contempt for Lily. Soon, a bizarre everyday routine creates a bond between the two women who learn to know each other better with every day passing. Lotte learns that Lily works as a prostitute to support her little daughter whom she hasn't seen in five years. After an incident that shows to Lotte that she cannot rely on her father, and Lily is menaced by a brutal pimp, Lotte needs to act. She decides to save Lily from her life in Denmark and to help her to get to her daughter. What she does not anticipate is that Lily does not want to be rescued.
The film was one of the audience favourites at the Berlinale 2009 and also won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Berlin.
