The general objective of the series is to help readers understand the basic civic concepts around which society is organised and forms part pf the wider process of civic education organised by the church/NGO civic education network, made up of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe, the Legal Resources Foundation, The Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Zimbabwe Human Rights Association, Women's Action Group, Edwina Spicer Productions and Africa Community Publishing and Development Trust. The Community Publishing Process is a unique and innovative democratic process involving thousands of Zimbabwe citizens. Through the process the learners develop their confidence, creativity and skills by participating in the design of their own learning materials. By participating in the planning, researching, writing and co- ordination of these materials, representatives of the target readership had a chance to experience democracy in practice.
