Kofi Awoonor, un des poètes les plus accomplis du Ghana, s’est engagé pendant presque un demi-siècle à l'enseignement, à la politique et aux arts littéraires. La poésie a été la seule constante qui a guidé et formé beaucoup de ses multiples activités et rôles dans la vie. The Promise of Hope est un recueil admirablement édité d’une grande partie du travail saisissant d'Awoonor, couvrant presque cinquante ans.

Sélectionné et édité par Kofi Anyidoho, ami et collègue d'Awoonor, qui lui-même est un poète et universitaire reconnu au Ghana The Promise of Hope contient beaucoup de poèmes d'Awoonor non publiés et plus récents, avec beaucoup de ses poésies déjà parues dans des anthologies classiques. Kofi Awoonor (1935–2013) était un diplomate et professeur de littérature comparée dans plusieurs universités, y compris l'Université du Ghana. Il est l'auteur de plusieurs volumes de poésie, y compris Night of My Blood; Ride Me, Memory; The House by the Sea; et The Latin American and Caribbean Notebook. Une anthologie de ses poésies (jusqu'au 1985) a été publiée dans Until the Morning After. Kofi Anyidoho, un poète et un érudit, a été membre de comités de rédaction de plusieurs revues et a été un rédacteur invité de Matatu, une revue africaine de culture et société.

Kofi Awoonor has been a diplomat, a professor of comparative literature at numerous universities, and recently retired from teaching full-time in the Department of English at the University of Ghana. He is the author of several volumes of poetry, including Night of My Blood, Ride Me, Memory, The House by the Sea, and The Latin American and Caribbean Notebook. His collected poems (through 1985) were published in Until the Morning After. Kofi Anyidoho, a poet and scholar, serves on editorial boards for several journals and has been a guest editor of Matatu, a journal of African culture and society that is published in Amsterdam.
