The Africa Centre s’est associé avec des artistes australiens, brésiliens, italiens, hollandais, espagnols, sud-africains et américains pour développer le programme « Artist in Residency 2012 » (AIR).
Ce programme a été développé dans le but de promouvoir des artistes issus du continent africain, des artistes provocateurs, innovants, pertinents et engagés, autant dans des problématiques sociales que dans leurs expressions artistiques.
AIR se distingue en développant des partenariats de résidences artistiques à travers le monde. Les artistes sont choisis à partir d’une liste fournie par l’Africa Centre, élaborée à partir d’une recherche à travers le continent pour les résidences des années 2012 et 2013. Les frais de résidence et le voyage aller-retour sont pris en charge par le programme.
A partir des demandes reçues, l’Africa Centre sélectionnera trois candidats pour chacune des 10 résidences proposées. Ces 3 candidatures seront ensuite transmises à différents partenaires de résidence, c’est à partir de ces dernières listes que seront désignés les 10 lauréats des « Artist in Residency 2012 Awards ».
L’Africa Center annoncera les artistes sélectionnés pour le programme de résidence le 15 Juillet 2012. Les résidences concernent tous les types d’artistes, mais chaque lieu de résidence propose des séjours de différentes durées, structures et exigences. La date limite pour les inscriptions au programme est le 15 Juin 2012.

Calling Africa’s Artists
The Africa Centre, together with artist in residency programmes in Australia, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and the United States of America, have partnered to create the Artist in Residency (AIR) 2012 programme. The programme has been conceived to support artists from Africa who are provocative, innovative, relevant and highly engaged with both social issues and their art forms.
AIR manifests through existing artist in residency partnerships around the world, that are prepared to select an artist from a short list provided by the Africa Centre, created from a continental search, for one of their 2012 or 2013 residencies. The costs of the residency and roundtrip airfare are included in each residency award made as part of this programme.
From the applications received, the Africa Centre will select three candidates for each of the 10 residency awards on offer. These candidates will be forwarded to various Residency Partners; it is from these lists that they will select the 10 artists to be granted the Artist in Residency 2012 Awards.
The Africa Centre will announce the recipients of the Artist in Residency programme on 15 July 2012. The residencies are available to all types of artists, but each residency on offer has different durations, structures and requirements. Application deadline is 15 June 2012.
