The Nigeria Book Fair Trusts Vision of briging books closer to the people for better education and self improvement is gradually becoming a reality. the succeses that have been recorded with each edition of the nigeria International Book Fair since inception are evident to this assesment.
There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigeria International Book Fair has become a rallying point for all the stakeholders in the book and the education sector of the economy, it has become a meeting place for networking in the publishing industry in Africa, As is the tradition of the Nigeria International Book Fair, The theme for the 2007 International Conference which is a major feature at the Book Fair is « Capacity Building in The Africa Publishing Industry » This International Conference would hold on Monday 7th May 2006, at the Multipurpose Hall B, University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Education has been defined as knowledge and abilities, development of character and mental powers acquired through systematic training and instruction. Education, therefore serves as an instrument of socialization, and it has a dual significance, First and Foremost, it is person centred and secondly, it is society centred.
Education improves the capabalities of the individual and contributes to his self-fulfilment. at the same time, education performs symbolic and practical functions for the social system as a whole. Every society relies on education for cultural transmission, social integration, innovation, selection and allocation, personal and economic growth.
The role of education in development can not be over-emphasized; it’s one singular tool that can transform any country economically and otherwise if well tailored to the goals and aspiration of any socio-political system.
However, the wheel of education are books and other instructional materials without which education would be incapacitated.

Education literacy in Nigeria is increasing on a regular basis. As at 2003, the adult literacy stands at 68%. Today, there are over 50million Nigerians at the various educational institutions in the country.Tertiary institutions in the country are made up of 75 federal and state universities,15 private universities, 49 government and 7 private polytechnics, as well as 64 colleges of education.

The book industry in Nigeria is a vibrant and growing one. In the last one year, the number of registered member firms of the Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has risen from 103 to 112. There are a sizeable number of well-established publishing outfits that are not members of the Publishers Association. Big and well-structured modern bookshops also exist in city centers and sub-urban locations, thus making books readily available and within the reach of the reading public. The Nigerian book market is indeed a veritable one for business minded investors.
