Animae Caribe – animation, film and new media festival 2007

The University of The West Indies, Trinidad – Critical Thinking Centre, will be hosting the Animae caribe – animation, film and new media festival from the 25th – 27th of October 2007: Since the year 2001 the Animae Caribe Festival has been a platform for the sharing of the Caribbean aesthetic through Film, Animation and New-media. This year marks the 6th Anniversary of the festival which has grown tremendously. Animators from the wider Caribbean and the Diaspora have submitted entries for Award judging. Internationally renowned animators have committed to attending the festival this year to experience the dynamic talent that is the Caribbean. Last year’s winners were a cross section of University students as well as freelance animators from Trinidad and Jamaica.
During the festival, the Egyptian animation artist, Mohamed Ghazala will be showing samples of Africa films from all over the continent from the first African film that came from Egypt in 1935 to the more recent animation film in the industry. The show is supported by Interface animation festival in Durban/South Africa, UNESCO Project Africa- Nairobi/Kenya, independent animators from all over Africa and Minia University- Egypt.
The festival provides a mixture of feature presentations, workshops and learning opportunities, screenings of animations from Animae Caribe through the years as well as international pieces, and a Gala Award ceremony. Animators are invited to submit animated shots and commercial pieces for consideration for Awards, please use the registration form provided.
